In December, Nana Danso Abiam was killed in a car accident in Accra, Ghana.

In 1998, Nana founded the Pan Africa Orchestra in Accra, Ghana fulfilling his dream to conduct an Afro-centric orchestra solely with traditional African instruments. The first album, Opus 1, was released in 1995 by Realworld Records and went to the top of the New World Music Charts for six weeks. The orchestra's repertoire included Nana's own compositions and his arrangements of traditional songs, as well as highlife, Afro-rock and Fela-Kuti' s Afro-beat. In 2003 the PAO collaborated with the master Kora player and composer, Tunde Jegede in a concert in Accra. At the time of his passing “Nana Dee” was in the process of establishing an international conservatory of African music.

“Accra” is part of a project I started with Nana Dee I’m 2003, featuring the music of the Pan African Orchestra.

Nana Dee...RIP!
